Hermann Schroeder: Schönster Herr Jesu

The hymn tune (heard here before the prelude) on which this chorale prelude is based is not the one that appears in most hymnals as “Beautiful Savior” or “Fairest Lord Jesus.” It is much older, originating from the 1677 Münster Gesangbuch. The chorale prelude is the last of Hermann Schroeder’s "Sechs Orgelchoräle über altdeutsche geistliche Volkslieder," op. 11.
