Sometimes a classical piano piece for orchestra can sound remarkably like a finger exercise. Indeed many composers have 'challenged' pianists' abilities by writing incredibly fast & technically demanding works, often involving complex, unusual fingering. With this in mind I began to ponder how my own basic piano exercises would fare if orchestrated. During this series of tutorials I'll be examining, probing & delving into the Art of Orchestration by transforming my own exercises into orchestral pieces. Since these exercises are short & to the point they provide an ideal starting point for experimenting with orchestral colours, textures & techniques. Orchestration has always fascinated me so I decided that this would be an ideal opportunity to discover more about it.
