Freight & passenger UK mainline trains in action

We spent the morning at Mill Lane Crossing in Oxfordshire before heading to Kings Sutton Station for a day of non-stop mainline action. With passenger services and heavy rail freight passing by, including some named class 66 locomotives, we saw loads of locomotives! This video offers a snippet of UK railway movements, filmed from two brilliant locations on the Chiltern mainline. The stretch of line around King's Sutton is one of the busiest, most varied four-way railway cross-overs in the Midlands! Originally built by the Great Western Railway between 1845 and 1850 as part of the Oxford & Rugby route, this section acts as a vital bottleneck where both the Chiltern Main Line (London Marylebone to Birmingham) and the Cherwell Valley Line (London Paddington/Didcot to Oxford and Banbury) merge and share the tracks. Because it connects key freight and passenger corridors between the North, South, and Midlands, it is one of the few places in the UK where you can watch CrossCountry Class 221 Super Voyagers, GWR Class 165 Turbo units, Chiltern Railways Class 168 Clubmans, and heavy Class 66 freight trains all sharing the exact same set of rails!
