Members of Parliament are demanding a comprehensive assessment of government programmes and money spent in Karamoja before a proposed Shs15 trillion, 10-year Karamoja Regional Development Plan (KRDP) is implemented. During a meeting of the Presidential Affairs Committee, MPs questioned the effectiveness of previous interventions, alleged duplication of projects and concerns over incomplete government-funded projects. Hon. Lucy Akello and Hon. Harriet Nakweede called for an evaluation of past programmes to establish why they failed to deliver lasting change, while Committee Chairperson Hon. Martin Ojara Mapenduzi questioned the implementation and coordination of existing interventions. The proposed KRDP includes major projects such as a man-made lake, bulk water transfers from Lake Bisina, livestock industries, industrial parks, schools, electrification and a railway.
