This video is part of the IP4OS Profession Deepening Modules. Together with the accompanying exercise (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22643840), it describes the bridging role of European Research Managers who strategically connect Intellectual Property management and Open Science practices to create lasting research impact. It highlights how Research Managers support researchers in making deliberate decisions about what to protect, share, and when — turning research outputs into societal, economic, environmental, and scientific values. The video features perspectives from three research managers and showcases real-world practice: from Data Management Plans as early valorisation tools (Daniel Spichtinger, Self employed advocacy & dissemination services), to multi-professional consultation teams at institutional level (Linda Piálek, Kiel University), to cross-role coordination with industry partners, funders, and Open Science officers (Teodora Konach, EARMA). The video emphasises the key role of Research Managers as integrators and facilitators — moving from reactive support to strategic coordination, and embedding a concerted IP–OS approach into project design, institutional workflows, and policy. After watching the video, we recommend engaging with a short exercise to deepen your knowledge. You can find the exercise here (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22643840).
