Khutba by Brother Saeed Malik
Baraka is usually translated as blessing, but the word reaches further. In the Quran the verb tabaraka belongs to Allah alone: He is the generous source of all baraka (67:1, 55:78). Saeed Malik traces baraka as the quality within the measure: the little that suffices, the food of two that feeds three, the wealth of Qarun that had none, and the shepherd's staff of Musa that did. Baraka defies the zero-sum mindset, attaches itself to good action rather than passivity, and shows itself in the tree, in water, in the Kaaba, and above all in Ibrahim, whose trust in Allah made extinguished the fire that was set out by the idolaters to burn him.
