On just the first day I lost 3 lures and nearly got spooled twice. I was really outgunned by the size of fish here. Initially, I was using my rod with 58lb braid, and couldn't really tighten the drag too much as I knew the line would definitely break! First, I lost 2 lures on 2 BIG tunas cos my leader broke twice. Not sure if its the tunas tiny teeth or the ring on my swivel was too thin that it cuts through the leader at the knot. Then when I tightened the drag a bit more to prevent getting spooled, it was the main line that broke this time and I lost my third lure and third good sized tuna 😑 At the end I learnt from these valuable lessons and re-spooled my reel with 100lb braid , I kept using my 100lb mono leader but also used a wire trace on that and BOOOOOOOM 💥 I landed my biggest YFT after a 16 mins battle! This time I managed to relax a bit and not rush things. I managed to keep setting my drag reasonably good and the monster was landed before getting taxed like a couple of his brothers! 💪💪 This one in the video is the one I caught on my spinning rod and reed and it was 28.4 kg 👌 Special thanks to my Main Man Louis who arranged all this, also Aaron who's one of the best skippers I've been with and finally Isaac who picked my up from the hotel every time at 3:30am, he was always on time 👌 Also would like to thank Pete at Otto's Tackle World in Sydney who recommended this spinning rod and some awesome lures I used.
