Amon Amarth Returns to Form! The Allfather Awakens Review

Amon Amarth is back with their 13th studio album, The Allfather Awakens, and after feeling that some of their more recent albums were a little underwhelming, I have to say… this one surprised me. I first discovered Amon Amarth around 2016 with Jomsviking, and over the years I've gone back and explored some of their classic albums, including Twilight of the Thunder God and With Oden on Our Side. I also reviewed their 2022 album The Great Heathen Army here on the channel. So how does The Allfather Awakens compare? In this review, I'll go through the album track by track and talk about the heavy hitters, melodic anthems, darker and doomier moments, and even Amon Amarth's first completely acoustic folk track. From “Gjallarhorn” and “Eight Legs of Thunder” to “Oden's Hunt” and the six-minute epic “Ascending Like an Eagle,” there's a lot to like here. For me, this is a very well-rounded Amon Amarth album and a nice return to form. If you're an Amon Amarth fan, let me know in the comments: What do you think of The Allfather Awakens? What's your favorite track? And if you haven't seen my review of The Great Heathen Army, check it out when it appears on screen at the end of this video.
