Mixing Spider Noir with Nick Offord and Ryan Collins 🕸️

Sit in with Nick Offord and Ryan Collins as they use FutzBox to shape the world of Spider Noir. For Nick and Ryan, creating a whole new world started with trying to emulate the sound of a 1930s Noir film. Emulation is where McDSP came in: when it comes to distortion and emulating old time-y technology and speakers, tinny noir films, and mono mixes, FutzBox takes the cake. Dialogue, effects, sound track -- all of it -- is run through FutzBox "from the first frame of episode one to the last." But how to achieve a vintage sound without alienating modern viewers? While the visuals in Spider Noir juggle both color and black and white, Nick and Ryan dynamically shift between an authentically distorted mono vintage mix and the full fidelity surround sound of modern cinema. Moving in and out of FutzBox with the mix knob and fader controls, they provide the backbone needed to shape this show in to one cohesive whole.
