A robot can pick the package. A chatbot can answer the question. The customer can still be waiting, and the business can still be losing money.
Starting with my own delayed order, this documentary follows what has to happen between an impressive AI demo and a business that actually works better. We look at inventory research, ABB’s real robot demonstrations, customer support experiments and the costs that disappear from a sales pitch.
Then we follow the money through a fictional $60,000 investment. What changes when you count ongoing costs, contribution per order and the time it takes to earn the investment back?
What would convince you that an AI investment is working: faster tasks, lower costs or a better customer experience? Tell me below.

Management’s savings claim and broader operating expenses are distinct measures, not an independently verified AI-profit calculation.
The store, financial calculations and operational demonstrations are fictional planning illustrations, not supplier quotes, forecasts or verified investment returns. My delayed-order account does not establish what caused that retailer’s delay.
