November of 2023 found me in Tampa, Florida again just as I was in November of 2022. I ended up adding onto a lot of the classic stuff I managed to film in 2022, starting off with this neat crossing on the Tampa Terminal Subdivision. Here we see Amtrak 91, the southbound Silver Star, slowing down for Neve Wye in order to turn its train for the backing move into Tampa Union Station.
This crossing features some older CSX or SBD equipment dating likely dating back to the 1980s. Most of the original equipment is from Western Cullen Hayes, though all of the light heads do appear to have been replaced at some point. The crossing still boasts two Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bells, though it would be hard to know that by sound alone. Both bells have rusted out so thoroughly that they sound much more like actual cowbells. Unfortunately, the only fix for them at this point would be replacement gongs, but I know as well as the next man that CSX wouldn't bother with such a project. Both bells are still up as of late 2025, presumably clonking away just like this.
