Can two people really travel full-time on a planned budget of $2,452 a month? We originally estimated Larry’s Social Security at about $900, but after officially applying, we learned his benefit will be $1,086 a month. That leaves us with approximately $234 a month—or $2,808 a year—of breathing room beyond our seven main budget categories. But that money still has work to do. We explain why prepaid travel is not free, why casino offers and points are not income, where credit-card and membership fees belong, and how inexpensive house-sitting months must balance more expensive rental months. We also stress-test the plan against the things most likely to break it: Cancelled house-sits, too many moves, restaurant spending, casino chasing, unexpected fees, and changes in our health or energy.
