Nissan 350Z trunk strut replacement (hatch struts) on our Z33 project car. It should have been a 15 minute job. It took 8 days.
In Episode 3 of our 350Z build, we install new trunk struts and find out how many things can go wrong along the way: a strut turned the wrong way, ball head screws, new tools, homemade gasket crafting, a weather delay, and a driver’s side strut that would not stay connected. If you’re replacing the hatch struts on your 350Z, watch this first so you don’t repeat our mistakes.
In this video, we cover:
How to remove and install Z1 Nissan 350Z trunk / hatch struts
What happens when you strip the ball screw in your hatch
Understanding that you need to take both struts off before you try to install the new struts
How to remove paint that was spilled on your car by someone else
How to make a gasket from Amazon: Gasket crafting
How to diagnose when the retaining loop falls down into the socket head of the strut.
💬 Question of the Day: How many times does the 12mm ratchet wrench get used on the car in this episode?
