My name's Gavin Strange and I'm a Director & Designer for Aardman by day, and a passion project pursuer going under the alias of Jamfactory by night. A showreel is a big part of how I represent myself as a creative out there in the world, so I've dug into my latest reel to hopefully provide some useful nuggets for when you create your showreel.
I think that a reel shouldn't be reserved just for filmmakers - any kind of creative would benefit from having their work succinctly summed up in a neat little moving image package!
Here's a little cheat sheet of the programs & services I use when creating a reel:
⚡️ Edited with Adobe Premiere
⚡️I use a click track to start off with as a tempo guide. Something like 75BPM. I use an online service to generate a clicktrack: http://songmaven.com/music-downloads/...
⚡️ Extra animation done with Adobe After Effects
⚡️I use Battleaxe's 'OVERLORD' plugin to easily transfer vector data from Illustrator to After Effects: https://www.battleaxe.co/overlord/
⚡️ Music was created using Ableton Live and a DJ Tech Tools 'MIDI Fighter 3D': https://www.midifighter.com/
⚡️ When I don't make the music myself, I often use Premium Beat: https://www.premiumbeat.com/
I hope this dive into my reel is useful, if I can help out or you have any more questions then drop a comment below or you can find me online at:
