Can this old, rusty meat grinder work again?
In this video, I take apart a worn red manual meat grinder and work through its restoration, from the damaged finish and rusty metal parts to reassembly and a real grinding test.
The process includes:
• Disassembly and inspection
• Welding repair of a broken metal part
• Sandblasting to remove old paint and rust
• Sanding, wire brushing, and polishing the metal parts
• Masking and repainting the exterior in red
• Reassembly
• A final test with meat to see whether the mechanism works again
Not everything went to plan. The old handle proved especially troublesome, and some details did not turn out exactly as I had hoped. That is part of this project’s story: working through the problems and seeing how far I could bring this old machine back.
I couldn’t capture the sandblasting process clearly, so that section shows the cleaned parts after blasting. The rest of the video follows the work at the bench, with close-up details, workshop sounds, and a final look at the transformation.
The final grinding test demonstrates the mechanism working. It does not verify that the restored grinder is suitable for food use.
What should I restore next? Leave your suggestion in the comments.
