In August 1984, Margaret Tapp, 35, and her nine-year-old daughter Seana were murdered in their home in Ferntree Gully, Melbourne. Forty years on, the case is unsolved.
In 2008, a prisoner was charged after a DNA match. Fifteen days later, police withdrew the charges: the sample had been contaminated in a laboratory years earlier.
This video covers the night of the murders, the evidence police found, the 2008 DNA error, and the cold case review that followed, including the A$1 million reward offered in 2017.
Content note: This video discusses the murder and sexual assault of a child.
