Important Warning! This IS NOT a Clean, Clear, Well-played, and/or Professional cover. I am merely learning to play these things and just passed 4.5 years doing so and that's time split with Bass as well. The point is that I'm still a long way from being "GOOD" at this. I'm a bit better on Bass than I am on 6-String but I'm still very much learning on both. A Fair Assessment at this point would be to say that I'm also certainly no longer "Bad" at this either.
Sometimes I'm better than other times and that depends on what I'm trying to play. In This Case... If I'm being honest with you, and myself. This one has plenty of flaws and things missed in it. There is no question about that. Some of those are going to be quite obvious to most listeners whether musicians or not. Many others though are much less so. It's hard to say really. The point is that I am just very inconsistent and imprecise with some things still.
The biggest things are those bottom three strings as well as fast and frequent, wildly fluctuating transitions all over the fret-board. When it comes right down to it, this attempt / this recording, really is pretty damn good for me to have managed considering the band I'm chasing here. However, in the grand scheme of things, it's also going to impress nobody including myself. These lads are far, far beyond me in skill at this thing and that's why I'm trying to learn from them.
While I have played and posted the Bass Side of this song in the past, this is the first time I've ever posted A Lead Side. I say "A Lead Side" because this CDLC alone has two different Lead Side Charts on it. One of those is simply called "Lead" while the other is called "Alternate Lead" instead. The charting does differ on them but I can't say for certain exactly how much and where because I only briefly looked over both of them and chose this "Alternate Lead" side to attempt first.
If I'm being honest, both are a bit beyond my skill / ability level to certain degrees with some parts being rougher than others. However, this Alternate Lead side is the one I deemed to be likely a bit more manageable although I don't recall exactly why. Did I manage it you're probably wondering? Sure, yeah, to some degree I did. I won't say I managed it well but it could have been worse too. The fact is there's probably a proper way to play this which would make it easier than the way I used which was sort of just chaos. Eventually I'll figure that out but I didn't yet and I played through this a solid 5 or 6 times at least before I gave up for the night.
Now I've talked about "Lead" vs "Alternate Lead" but I didn't mention that I don't label with that because it can't be abbreviated in the title bar to make sense to others. I call the "Lead" side Version 1 and I call the "Alternate Lead" side Version 2 because "v1" and "v2" are more intuitive in that title bar. Thus, this recording is of Version 2 and you see "v2" in the title bar as a result. I may actually have another CDLC with this song as well because I know I have two different ones charted with Bass but one of those CDLCs might very well be Bass only. The point is that I may have three or more Lead Side Charted Versions of this song but this is the first I've played and uploaded.
My score on the first attempt I made at this song came out to a rather miserable 81.3% Accuracy. I hated that so I had to try for more. I don't know with certainty that this recording is that second time through or if it was the third or fourth or what. Like I said, I know I played through it several times but I do think this was the second attempt I made. The score on this attempt / this recording came out to 83.3% Accuracy. If you guessed that I still hated that score you would be correct. I'll hate the score until it reaches a minimum of 90.0% Or Higher on a song like this but I need a lot of work so I'll keep doing that. For now, this is the best I could manage before I dropped it for the night and moved on for the sake of my own sanity.
It's fair to note that this song is far, far from being packed full of notes / chords when compared to my usual fare. That means what I bass my "Good Score" vs "Bad Score" on personally is probably skewed a bit because of that. It doesn't take much to drastically drop the score in a song like this so realistically speaking, I didn't have a ton of egregious mistakes here that make it sound like complete trash. It doesn't sound terrible and it doesn't sound great. My timing is quite questionable in places and much better in others. It's just very imperfect, there's no question about that. I still need a lot of work on things like this but if it sounded incredibly bad I wouldn't have kept it just like I didn't on that past attempt I mentioned.
