Long before the orange movie car and enormous dyno numbers, the Mk2 Celica Supra was winning American reviewers over with a smooth inline-six, balanced handling, and those unmistakable pop-up headlights. Comparing the Mk2, Mk3, and Mk4 means looking beyond horsepower. The A60 paired its 2.8-liter 5M-GE with a choice of sporty P-Type or luxurious L-Type trim. When the A70 arrived, the Supra stepped out of the Celica’s shadow. Rear-wheel drive, the available 7M-GTE turbo engine, and electronically controlled suspension gave Toyota’s grand tourer an identity of its own—and some extra weight to carry. Then came the A80. Its 2JZ-GTE sequential twin-turbo six helped the U.S.-spec Supra Turbo deliver 320 horsepower, with factory performance that earned respect well before The Fast and the Furious. Gran Turismo, tuning shops, and movie fame would take that reputation much further. Motor Memento revisits what each generation actually offered in its own era, separating original engineering from the legends that grew afterward. The Mk4 has the strongest performance numbers here. But the earlier Supras deserve to be remembered for more than what came next: one established a distinctive grand-touring character, and the other made Supra a name that could stand alone. #MotorMemento #Dodge -- Copyright / Fair Use Disclaimer: This video is created for commentary, criticism, education, and historical discussion.
