Joyous People this video is the story of Margaret. In her own words. Hi there, my name's Margaret. I was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, in 1944. I was one of eight children. I was a quiet person, so I found that difficult. I left school when I was 15and became a nanny. Then I met Arthur. We married in 1962. We had three children, very quickly. I raised my family. But eventually,I realised I wasn't living the life I wanted. I was very unhappy. I'd always been drawn to people who were different. Hippie types. People who wanted to read. People who saw life differently. So one day,I walked out. I went to a holiday cottage in Broadhaven. And I started again. I began studying. History.Art history.Literature. At 58,I applied to university. They gave mean unconditional offer. So I moved to Oxford. I didn't know a soul. For the first time,I felt this was whatI'd been missing. This was whatI wanted to do with my life. I'd always wondered if I might be gay. I knew I needed to explore my sexuality. I wanted to find out if what I thought was true. I lost my daughter, Carolyn, to illness. She was only 44. It happened in four months. I moved down to be with her. I went into the hospital every day. We laughed and joked because that's how our family dealt with things. After she died,I wanted to be therefor her children. I taught them to ride bikes. I taught him to swim. I tried to fill the space their mother had left. And then my son Simon also became ill. I'm trying to get my head around losing another child. And then I met Cathy. Everything changed. We had the same sense of humour. We just clicked. We knew. We built a life together. We travelled. We laughed. We kept learning. We kept going. We kept finding things to enjoy together. I've worked so hard to be me. And Cathy made that possible. Her and my family are everything to me. Directed and Edited By: Sam Fogg
