In July 2000, Toyota announced a sedan to mark the 100-millionth vehicle built in Japan. The Origin looked like a 1955 Crown, opened its rear doors backwards from a center hinge, and was put together by hand — traditional lacquer, hand-stitched leather, real wood — at the Kanto Auto Works plant that also builds the Century. 1,000 were planned. 1,073 were built. The price was ¥7,000,000. And it was sold through ordinary Toyota, Toyopet, and Corolla dealers — in Japan only. No export program, ever.
