St. John Eudes: Apostle of the Sacred & Immaculate Hearts | Growing in Devotion

St. John Eudes is one of the most influential saints that many Catholics have never heard of. Long before St. Margaret Mary Alacoque spread devotion to the Sacred Heart throughout the world, St. John Eudes laid the foundation by promoting devotion to both the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In this reflection, we explore the remarkable life of St. John Eudes: his heroic service during deadly plagues, his missionary work throughout France, his efforts to reform seminary education, and his compassion toward those trapped in lives of sin and exploitation. Most importantly, we examine his role in developing and promoting devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. St. John Eudes reminds us that God often works through many saints across many centuries to bring His plans to fruition. The devotions we cherish today did not appear overnight—they were woven together by generations of faithful souls cooperating with divine grace.
