I TREKKED TO SHIVAJI MAHARAJ'S VASOTA FORT 🚩 Our adventure started late at night as we left Pune by bus, heading towards Bamnoli, a beautiful lakeside village located around 170 km from Pune. After reaching Bamnoli, we took some time to rest, set up our tents, and enjoy a delicious breakfast. From there, our next adventure began! 🚤 We took a ferry ride across the backwaters of Shivsagar Lake, which itself was an incredible experience surrounded by the Sahyadri mountains. After reaching the trekking point, we started our hike through the dense forest. 🌿🥾 After trekking for around 5 km, we finally reached our destination — Vasota Fort! 🚩 Vasota is not just a beautiful trek; it is a place deeply connected with Maratha history. The fort is associated with the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who recognized the strategic importance of forts in the Sahyadris. Vasota's remote location, dense forests and natural surroundings made it an important defensive position. One interesting historical fact is that Vasota was also known as Vyaghragad, meaning “Tiger Fort”, because of its rugged terrain and wild surroundings. 🐅🏰 Standing at the top, surrounded by the Sahyadri ranges, forests and the massive Shivsagar reservoir, made all those kilometres of travel and trekking completely worth it.
