Agri-food systems in Central Eastern Europe (CEE) are key to achieving the EU climate goals. The webinar series “Climate Action in Agri-food Systems in Central Eastern Europe (CEE)”, taking place from October to November 2023, explores how agroecology (including organic farming) and sustainable food consumption can enable a transition to climate friendly and resilient agri-food systems in Central Eastern Europe, while also addressing the biodiversity crisis and the economic crisis in agriculture. In this first webinar on “Farming with nature: mitigating climate change and building resilience at farm and landscape level", participants explored how agroecology can benefit farmers and biodiversity and contribute to both climate mitigation and adaptation. We heard insights from researchers on the potential of agroecology and saw concrete examples of agroecology in practice in Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary. Participants also discussed with practitioners and stakeholders on where the opportunities and needs are for better supporting agroecology transition in Central Eastern Europe. The webinar series is part of a project which aims to strengthen the capacities and collaboration for transitioning towards climate friendly and resilient agri-food systems in CEE. The project is coordinated by Ecologic Institute and funded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
