Learn the Arabic letter ya (ي) from a real word: yad, hand. You will take the letter out of the word, hear ya with fatha, kasra and damma (yamāmah, dove; jayyid, good; buyūt, houses), read it with the letters of madd (siyāj, fence; ʿuyūn, eyes), see that ya is a letter of madd itself (tīn, figs) and how it sounds with sukun (bayt, house), and learn how to write it: start at the top right, curve to the left, come back to the right on the line, sweep a round bowl below the line, then the two dots. You will see ya's four shapes, notice that at the start of a word it is the same tooth as ba, ta and nun with different dots, find it at the start, middle and end of words (yad, fīl, fī, shāy), point at the right picture, and build a word yourself from the first letters of dove and hen: yad, hand. Modern Standard Arabic, taught in English for complete beginners.
