Paid members: Netflix shareholder letters and annual reports (10-K), 2007–2025. Until 2011 incl. DVD-by-mail members, from 2012 streaming only. For 2025 Netflix only said it passed 325 million, so the video shows "325M+".
Launch dates: Netflix press releases and news reports from each launch.
Countries counted: the 193 UN members plus Taiwan, Kosovo and Palestine. Territories (Greenland, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico …) are coloured but not counted; those without a launch date of their own are shown from the global launch in 2016.
No Netflix: China, North Korea, Syria and, since March 2022, Russia. Crimea is excluded too but is drawn as part of Ukraine. Iran is coloured because Netflix launched there in 2016, but the government blocks it.
Squid Game: Netflix (1.65 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days).
Map: Natural Earth (public domain), today's borders.
