Through centuries of candles, flowers, carved runes, moonlit ruins, waterfalls, and forgotten rituals, he continues returning to the places where her presence can still break through. He remembers her. He mourns her. He summons her. And whenever the universe permits it, she comes. Sometimes she is only light held between his hands. Sometimes she rises like a wraith from the water. Sometimes the stone statue he has watched for centuries seems to awaken beneath the moon. Sometimes she dances at the fountain while he simply sits and watches, knowing that reaching for her might make the moment disappear. His magic is darkness—sapphire, midnight, iron, and rune. Her presence is gold. The flowers growing through the ruins become part of both of them. His staff is wrapped in them. They grow through the stone. They surround her grave. They float across the water. Even after everything else has fallen away, something living continues to bloom. The recurring fountain, castle, flowers, candles, moon, and golden apparition become memories instead of scenery. The darkness does not disappear when she arrives. It simply becomes illuminated.
