What We Found on an Evening Game Drive in South Africa

Come with us for an evening game drive through the South African bush after a long day of fieldwork. This video is a little more relaxed than my usual fieldwork content, just heading out in the safari truck, driving through the veld, and seeing what we can find before the sun goes down. Along the way we come across kudu, zebra, impala, eland, sable, blue wildebeest, and a tiny steenbok disappearing through the bush. I’m also still learning how to drive a manual safari vehicle, which gets especially interesting when you’re constantly slowing down, speeding up, watching for wildlife, trying not to throw everyone around in the back…and filming at the same time. And because apparently I can’t completely turn the research brain off, we also stop to look at some active bush-clearing work and a mulcher being used to open up dense woody vegetation. But mostly, this one is just about enjoying an evening in the African bush, the wildlife you see, the animals you almost see, and all the little moments in between.
