The 2026 Goodwood Stakes is run at 1 1/8 miles on dirt at Santa Anita Park and is the final Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. With several horses possessing early speed and wanting to race forward, pace could be one of the most important factors in this year’s race. In this video, I start with the Goodwood Stakes race architecture and explain why Santa Anita’s 990-foot stretch matters. A shorter stretch gives closers less time to gain momentum, potentially forcing them to begin their move before entering the stretch. I also examine 15 years of Goodwood Stakes historical data to see where past winners were positioned during the race.
