ISLAMABAD GATE | A Vision for Pakistan's Capital by Architect Kamaal Sinaan

ISLAMABAD GATE | A Vision for Pakistan's Capital by Architect Kamaal Sinaan Why surround Islamabad with shipping containers when we can build magnificent architectural gateways that welcome visitors and support public safety? ISLAMABAD GATE is an architectural proposal by Architect Kamaal Sinaan to transform the principal entry points of Pakistan's capital into monumental landmarks combining architectural beauty, national identity, and modern security infrastructure. Inspired by historic castles and fortified city entrances, the design features four monumental arched gateways, ornamental metal gates, a stone-inspired façade, illuminated windows, a central clock, and landscaped traffic approaches. The inscription "WELCOME TO ISLAMABAD, THE CITY OF FLOWERS" celebrates the identity of our capital. THE VISION Instead of repeatedly deploying temporary shipping containers during security emergencies, Islamabad could develop permanent, purpose-designed architectural gateways at its principal access points. Under normal conditions, these gateways would welcome visitors and facilitate traffic movement. During serious security emergencies, integrated access-control systems could enable relevant authorities to regulate entry and exit in accordance with approved safety and emergency procedures. The proposal incorporates reinforced concrete construction, elevated observation areas, facilities for authorized security personnel, and provisions for firefighting and emergency-response infrastructure. Islamabad Gate is more than an architectural entrance. It is a vision for creating permanent urban landmarks that combine civic identity, functional infrastructure, and public safety. This conceptual proposal is presented for consideration by the Government of Pakistan, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ministry of Housing and Works, and other relevant authorities.
