Iron boots walked on sacred ground. The old order's keeper burned incense in an empty shrine while children grew up belonging to two worlds and fully inhabiting neither. The spirit of old Japan retreated into silence. The torii stood through all of it, witness to a nation shedding its skin. Nippon closed its eyes.
