With this matchplate pattern I will be able to mold up two parts in one small mold faster than I can make a mold of just one part using loose patterns. I'm not going full mass production ona level that demands permanent metal patterns with these or anything, this is just easier than trying to drill accurate enough alignment holes to attach the 3d printed patterns on opposite sides of a wooden matchplate in perfect alignment. Plus for these parts the matchplate happens to be small enough to cast in one of my 12X12 flasks, so it seems like the easiest way to go.
Many thanks to @swdweeb for making the 3d printer files for his cast molding tools available for really cheap in his webstore, plmfoundries.com. I hope I spelled that right. And for giving me his blessing to use them to cast a run of molding tools for a local business last year. Great option if you ahve a printer but no CAD knowhow like me. He even gave me a great deal on a custom logo for my client, Vans School of Blacksmithing, on one of the pattern files. I'm totally spoiling a video right now that I should have published almost a year ago but haven't edited yet, but it's ok, nobody reads the description anyway, right?
