How to Paint a Rock Like a Realistic Pumpkin | Fun Autumn Craft!

Today I’m turning an ordinary river rock into a realistic pumpkin! 🎃 In this step-by-step rock painting tutorial, I’ll show you how I use acrylic paint, shading, highlights, color mixing, and a few simple tricks to make a flat rock look like it has real pumpkin shape and dimension. We’ll start by priming the rock, mix a custom pumpkin orange, map out the ridges, build up shadows and highlights, and finish everything off with a realistic pumpkin stem. Feel free to paint along and make your own pumpkin rock, or just hang out with me while I paint! One of my favorite tricks in this project is using the opposite color on the color wheel to naturally gray the orange for the shadows instead of just adding black. Then we can keep layering highlights and shading until the pumpkin starts looking nice and 3D. And remember: you don’t have to make everything perfectly neat. Pumpkins aren’t neat and tidy either.
