Homeworkers are an essential yet largely invisible part of global garment and footwear supply chains. Hidden behind multiple layers of subcontracting, they often produce for international brands without recognition, labour protections, or effective access to remedy when their rights are violated.
This Deep Dive session at the 8th UN Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum, Asia-Pacific, in Bangkok, explored how human rights due diligence (HRDD) could extend beyond Tier One suppliers and better protect homeworkers, looking at practical, worker-centred approaches to making supply chains more transparent, accountable and inclusive.
The discussion brought together Allison Corkery from WIEGO, Janhavi Dave from HomeNet International, A.R. Chowdhury Repon from Labour at Informal Economy Society (LIE) in Bangladesh, and Zehra Khan from the Home Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF) in Pakistan, who shared perspectives and experiences from across Asia.
