49ers Had to Give Up 30 to Win — Greg Cosell

The 49ers are 3-0, but the bar keeps rising, and so do the questions. Greg Cosell of NFL Films joins the show to break down the tape from San Francisco's win over the Cardinals. He covers a defense that gave up 30 points without Nick Bosa, how much Mike Evans changes the offense, and whether Brock Purdy is playing better than anyone in the league. Cosell explains why he thinks the 49ers defense actually played the game the way it wanted to, even with Arizona running 81 plays. The Cardinals never completed a pass longer than 19 yards, and he says that's the one thing defensive coaches care about most. He also praises Fred Warner and Kyle Dugger. Then he gets into Purdy, arguing that he and Joe Burrow are the two best quarterbacks in the league at reacting after the snap, and he questions whether the league's obsession with arm strength and athletic tools is leading teams astray. Topics discussed include: Why giving up 30 points without Nick Bosa wasn't as bad as it looks How the 49ers played zone coverage and took away explosive plays Fred Warner and Kyle Dugger's roles in the defense What Mike Evans does for the offense and Purdy's confidence Breaking down Kittle's touchdown and the design behind it Is Brock Purdy one of the two best quarterbacks in the NFL? Why scouts missed on Purdy, and whether the combine model needs to change Caleb Williams and Bo Nix: interesting, or actually good? What's wrong with the Denver Broncos' passing game Why the 49ers haven't allowed a sack in three games Do you agree with Cosell that Purdy and Burrow are the two best in the league right now?
