Which country has truly dominated European club football?
This video follows the battle for European supremacy from 1956 to 2026, tracking every trophy won by clubs from each country across four major European competitions:
European Cup / UEFA Champions League
UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup
UEFA Cup / UEFA Europa League
UEFA Conference League
From Real Madrid’s extraordinary dominance in the earliest years to the rise of England, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and other European football powers, the leadership changed repeatedly as different countries enjoyed their own golden eras.
Some seasons were particularly remarkable, with clubs from a single country winning every European competition available that year.
Across 71 years, 170 trophies were won by clubs representing 19 countries and historical states.
Final standings in 2026:
Spain — 41
England — 37
Italy — 30
Germany — 19
Netherlands — 11
Portugal — 7
Belgium — 4
France — 4
Scotland — 3
USSR — 3
Russia — 2
Sweden — 2
Czechoslovakia — 1
East Germany — 1
Greece — 1
Romania — 1

For historical consistency, trophies are credited to the countries represented at the time of each victory. West Germany is included with Germany, while East Germany, the USSR, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia are shown separately.
