Most noteworthy personnel-wise has been the relatively new vocalist Maria Hasan who sings with drama and emotion on such captivating tunes as “Black Box,” “Wardah” and “Maria,” that highlighted the band’s riveting VIP Is Life performance at the 2025 Les Escales de Saint-Nazaire festival. On full display, the Orange Blossom quintet stretched out into a multitude of musical zones, including electronic, world, Arabic, trip-hop, soul, and at excited stretches rock. Chabot fueled the show with his electrifying violin drive that at times boldly took the songs into a dance frenzy, freeing Hasan to joyfully move into the beat. Chabot even danced while manning the violin. Key to the underlying groove of the show were the dynamic Mexican drummer Carlos Robles Arenas and Egyptian percussionist Hend Elwary who kept the heavy rhythms omnipresent. The name of the band comes from Chabot’s honoring the popular 1920s American fiddle train tune, “Orange Blossom Special” written by Ervin Rouse and Chubby Wise. The bluegrass standard takes on a new international life as the name of a band that wows its audience in a completely new flavor.
