If a load acts on a structure, something has to resist its effect. But where does that resisting force come from? This is where the idea of a reaction comes into the picture. In this video, we take the next step after understanding loads and supports and explore what a reaction actually means in a structure. Rather than starting with formulas, we will first visualize the interaction between a load, a support and the resulting reaction. 🏗️ In this video, you'll understand: What a reaction is Why reactions develop in a structure The relationship between load, support and reaction How a support responds when a load acts on a structure Why reactions are important in structural analysis How the concept of reaction connects to the upcoming topic of support reactions and equilibrium The goal is to understand the physical meaning of a reaction before moving toward calculations. 🧠 Understanding Before Memorization Strength of Materials: Zero to Hero follows a simple learning philosophy: Problem / Observation → Visualization → Concept → Equation → Example → Challenge Instead of simply memorizing definitions and formulas, we first try to understand what is physically happening in the structure and why. 📚 Strength of Materials: Zero to Hero This is Video #6 of the Strength of Materials: Zero to Hero series by CEWA Civil Engineering. So far, we've built our foundation step-by-step: What Is a Load? → What Can a Load Do to a Structure? → Force vs Load → What Is a Support? → Why Does a Structure Need Support? → What Is a Reaction? And this is where the concepts of support and reaction start coming together. The next steps will take us toward support reactions, equilibrium and free body diagrams, gradually building the foundation required for Strength of Materials and Structural Analysis. 👨‍🎓 Who is this series for? This series is useful for: Civil Engineering students Structural Engineering students Beginners learning Strength of Materials GATE Civil aspirants ESE/IES aspirants AE/JE aspirants Anyone who wants to develop strong fundamentals in Structural Engineering 📌 Follow the complete Strength of Materials: Zero to Hero series and build your engineering understanding step-by-step—from absolute basics to advanced concepts.
