What remains when the crown falls, the name is forgotten, the body returns to dust, and even the ravens gather? Scripture never hides the certainty of death. Kings die. Beggars die. Wealth cannot purchase another breath. Strength eventually fails. The earth receives what was formed from its dust. But for the one who belongs to Jesus Christ, the grave does not have the final word. 📖 The Ravens Will Not Have Me is a dark Christian death ballad inspired by the biblical themes of mortality, the vanity of earthly glory, the certainty of judgment, and the bodily resurrection promised through Jesus Christ. The imagery is deliberately bleak. Ravens wait. Crowns rust. Names disappear. Bodies return to the earth. Genesis tells us: “For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19 Ecclesiastes reminds us that we brought nothing into this world and can carry nothing from it. Yet Christianity does not end at the grave. Jesus Christ entered death Himself. He was buried. On the third day He rose bodily from the grave. Because Christ lives, death is a defeated enemy, and everlasting life is offered to whoever believes in Him. 🎵 *LYRICS* *[Verse 1]* Two black ravens crossed the hill, And circled where I lay. One cried low unto the other, “Whose flesh shall feed today?” *[Verse 2]* The king shall leave his golden crown, The poor shall leave his bread. The mighty hand shall lose its strength, For dust receives the dead. *[Chorus]* Dust to dust and bone to bone, The earth shall take her own. Naked came I from the womb, And naked shall I go. *[Verse 3]* My silver cannot ransom me, My name cannot remain. The years shall wear my stone away, And none shall know my fame. The raven waits upon the branch. The grave awaits below. And every road beneath the sun Ends where all men must go. *[Chorus]* Dust to dust and bone to bone, The earth shall take her own. Naked came I from the womb, And naked shall I go. *[Verse 4]* But there was One who entered death, And cold His body lay. The stone was sealed before His tomb. But death could make Him stay. The grave received the Son of God, But could not hold its King. The morning broke. The stone was moved. And death had lost its sting. *[Final Verse]* So raven, circle overhead. And grave, await below. This body may return to dust, But this I surely know: My Christ has walked the road of death. My Christ has conquered hell. And those who trust the risen Son Shall ever with Him dwell. The raven may have dust and bone. The earth may take what's clay. But Christ has bought my soul with blood... And I shall rise one day. ✝️ *THE GOSPEL* The ravens are not man's greatest enemy. Neither is the grave. Our greatest problem is **sin**. The Bible says: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 And Scripture warns: “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27 Our possessions cannot save us. Our morality cannot save us. Religion cannot save us. Church attendance, baptism, rituals, good deeds, and human effort cannot purchase eternal life. But God has provided the Savior. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died upon the cross for our sins. He was buried. On the third day, He rose again. The Gospel declares: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3 to 4 Jesus conquered the enemy every man eventually faces. Death. “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:55 Salvation is offered by God's grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8 to 9 Jesus Himself said: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.” John 6:47 One day your possessions will belong to someone else. Your name may eventually be forgotten. Your body will return to the earth unless Christ first returns. But Jesus Christ offers something the grave cannot consume. Everlasting life.
