Easy bluebonnet painting tutorial.
I used a simple color palette consisting of shades of blue (dominant color), green (secondary), and violet (accent color). First, I painted the background with pastel yellow to set a nice contrast to the blue. Then, I started placing the main petals with ultramarine blue and light phthalo blue straight from the tube. Using different shades of blue, I built layers of colors to create interest and more dimensional look for the bluebonnet.
During the process, I avoided over-blending colors and kept the brushstrokes bare and visible to create an abstract finish. Repetition of shades of blues helped tie the painting and made it more cohesive.
Shades of green were mixed to paint leaves in different shapes and sizes. Celery green was used to highlight and accompany the vibrant bluebonnet.
Finally, the background was painted with muted, pastel blue to harmonize with the entire bluebonnet painting.
