This beginner's guide follows Pacific cod bait fishing step by step, from lowering the rig into the water to finding bottom, setting the target depth, responding to a bite, and landing the fish. On Kouyuu Maru, there are two separate signals: first, feed the rig into the water, starting with the sinker and then the hooks in order. Wait for the next signal before everyone lowers their rig to the bottom together. As soon as the sinker reaches bottom, reel in to lift it clear. Fish close to the bottom without letting the sinker tap or drag, and touch the sinker down again occasionally. The video also explains adjusting the target depth when the cod move higher. In the bite sequence shown, there is no need to set the hook. Wait a little, then use the reel's motor to reel in on the slow side.
