You can really buy a house in Italy for €1.
But after looking into how these schemes actually work — and comparing them with real homes on the Italian property market — I started wondering whether €1 houses are actually the bargain they appear to be.
In this video, I look at the official €1 house programme in Guardia Sanframondi and compare it with six real Italian properties priced between €15,000 and €30,000 across Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria, Marche, Veneto and Liguria.
The €1 price is only the beginning. Renovation requirements, deadlines, guarantees, location and the condition of the property can completely change the equation.
And one €27,000 house in Calabria ended up being the property I'd investigate first.
Which one would you choose?
