Highlights of the 2026 Monticello Railway Museum Railroad Days Monticello, IL 09/19/26

After missing last year's event, I returned to the Monticello Railway Museum Railway Days event where multiple trains operate instead of the usual one. Leading the streamliner train was Wabash 1189 (EMD F7A) along with CN 15421 (steam generator car). Leading the freight train (with a car and caboose people could ride in) was CN 6789 (MLW FPA4) and CN 6862 (MLW FPB4). Finally, leading the mixed passenger train was the museums operating steam locomotive Southern 401 (Baldwin 2-8-0 consolidation type steam locomotive). I would also see the equipment on display in the recently expanded display barn as well as by the shops area. IC 8733 (GP11) appeared to be having work done on its trucks and CIM 31 (RS1325) appears sitting as well. I would take the Wabash 1189 led train to downtown Monticello and would take the Southern 401 led train back to the museum grounds after getting lunch.
