Intro to Winter Climbing with Glenmore Lodge - Scottish Cairngorms

The aim of this 2 day course was to develop the basic fundamental skills of mountaineering and climbing in winter. Areas covered - use of technical ice axes and crampons, safe route planning, belaying/rope work and climbing/movement techniques. It was my first experience of tackling this demanding form of climbing, and was a real test of both physical and mental endurance. The quality of instructing from our mountain leader Will was top class, and I was able to come away with a great depth of new skills and practical knowledge. Glenmore Lodge’s facilities for mountaineering and outdoors sports have to be some of the best in the UK. Their friendly staff were welcoming and made my two night stay easy and comfortable. I plan to advance my climbing skills to work towards lead experience, and will certainly be booking with Glenmoore this next winter.
