For this test drive, CCJ visits Peterbilt’s headquarters in Denton, Texas, to evaluate the Peterbilt 579 UltraLoft Epiq Max. The truck is equipped with a complete PACCAR powertrain, including an MX-13 engine, TX-12 transmission and DX-40 rear axles. Joined by Zach Gross, Peterbilt marketing manager, we take the truck on a 110-mile, 65,000-pound test haul from Denton to Bowie, Texas. Along the way, we review the PACCAR MX-13 powertrain, discuss the aerodynamic design of the UltraLoft Epiq Max and highlight its latest technology. We also step into the 80-inch UltraLoft sleeper for a closer look at its industry-leading 8 feet of headroom. What we cover in this video: Aerodynamics & Epiq Max Package: Front bumper air dams, tandem axle fairings, and robotic UltraLoft cab integration. Powertrain Performance: Real-world driving dynamics of the PACCAR MX-13 (455 hp) with a 65,000-lb load, comparing MX power vs. Cummins X15 specs. Cab Tech & Safety: Digital instrument cluster customization, Bendix Fusion 3.0 driver assistance, heated LED lighting, and camera mirror integration. Full UltraLoft Tour: Industry-leading 80-inch sleeper layout, SmartAir no-idle system, wardrobe storage, and work desk features.
