What is the benefit--really--of resting? Of sleep? Of pausing in the midst of our busy and plugged in lives? This talk explores how short, simple pauses and longer sleeping make us and those around us more attentive, more productive, and more effective. It looks at examples from music, cognitive science, and education, ultimately making a case for slowing down and letting ourselves become more of who we are and can be. Peter Nilsson is an English teacher and Assistant Dean of Faculty at Deerfield Academy. Peter's deepest interests are in promoting and improving education, making music, and finding intersections between unlike things. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
