Interview with Anna Hackl – In tireless defence of civil courage

Video recording from 2023, duration: 17 min. In February 1945, the family of Anna Hackl, born Langthaler, hid two Soviet prisoners who had escaped from the Mauthausen concentration camp at the risk of their own lives. Together with hundreds of fellow prisoners, they had escaped from the concentration camp and were hunted and murdered by soldiers and civilians during the search and killing operation known as the ‘Mühlviertler Hasenjagd’ by the SS. Only a few survived. Anna Hackl tirelessly tells this story in schools and at events. In this conversation, she talks about her story and how contact with the two prisoners was re-established after the war.
