For five years, I’ve been eyeing this rocky landing spot beside Lake George Glacier in Alaska. Today, I finally land my PA-18 Super Cub, Chaos Cub, there for the first time—and explore the incredible glacier ice of the Blue Wall.
The day starts as a normal flight out toward Knik Glacier, with high water along the Knik River and an unexpected visit off my left wing from the Helio Alaska Boy's celebrating Abe’s birthday. Turns out Lucas has organized an aerial scavenger hunt, with about ten airplanes following clues between landing spots. Naturally, I have to stop at Picnic Table Strip and see what they’re up to. Their next task? Find glacier ice. 😂
After watching a couple of groups work through their clues, I climb back into my PA-18 Super Cub and head through the iceberg-filled gorge toward Lake George Glacier.
I’ve looked at this landing spot for years, but the big rocks have always given me something to think about. With more tire tracks showing up, it’s time for another look—and my first landing here. Once on the ground, we explore and get the drone up to take in the glacier, mountains, and the little Cub sitting among it all.
An unexpected birthday adventure and a landing five years in the making. Just another day flying Alaska!
Welcome back to Chaos Cub—where good decisions are sometimes optional.
