A couple of subscribers requested this one, and I'm so glad they did. First of all, what a performance! The intensity, dynamics and energy just keep building throughout the song. It's brilliant watching how Keo develop everything as the performance goes on. And then there's the guitar part… We're using one of the strangest open tunings I've come across: C G C G C G That's right — all six strings are tuned to just TWO different notes! Then we add a capo on the 3rd fret. This creates such a cool, moody, grungy sound, with loads of ringing strings and some really interesting chord voicings. What's particularly clever is how much of the chord movement comes from playing just a couple of notes on the 6th and 5th strings while the other strings ring out. It's such a creative way of approaching the guitar, and it's incredibly fun to play. In this video, we cover: • Keo's live performance of Fly at The Windmill • The unusual C G C G C G open tuning • Using a capo on the 3rd fret • How the tuning works • The main guitar part • Creating chords with just a few notes • Using ringing open strings • The moody, grungy chord voicings • The different sections of the song • How the dynamics build throughout • Improvising and soloing over the progression • Putting the guitar parts together One of my favourite things about this song is how much atmosphere Keo create with relatively simple movements around the fretboard. It's a brilliant example of how experimenting with different tunings can completely change the way you approach writing guitar parts. And the live performance itself is fantastic. The energy just keeps building, the dynamics are brilliant, and the whole thing becomes more intense as it goes on. Honestly, I think this might be my favourite Keo song so far!
