Join Mike, or Mikey as many people call him, on The Celebrity Files (Music Edition) for the true story of Led Zeppelin: In nineteen sixty-eight, four young men gathered in a London basement to play a blues song, and within moments they knew they had formed something extraordinary. We begin with the legacy of the Yardbirds, where guitarist Jimmy Page sought to keep the heavy blues sound alive after his former bandmates moved toward folk. Page recruited singer Robert Plant, who suggested drummer John Bonham, and bassist John Paul Jones completed the lineup. They briefly toured as the New Yardbirds before settling on a name that captured their heavy yet graceful style. Signing a massive deal with Atlantic Records gave them total creative control. Their debut album, released in nineteen sixty nine, became a classic, followed by their second record which topped charts worldwide. The band toured extensively, developing a reputation for wild parties and huge crowds. They retreated to a Welsh cottage to craft a folk influenced third album. Then came their untitled fourth masterpiece, featuring the legendary track Stairway to Heaven, which sold tens of millions of copies. In nineteen seventy three, they released Houses of the Holy, a visually striking record that faced some controversy. They launched their own label, Swan Song, and produced the massive double album Physical Graffiti. However, personal struggles and tragedy began to take a toll. A car accident injured Plant, and later, the sudden death of their young son Karac forced a tour cancellation. Jimmy Page struggled with addiction, and John Bonham's health declined. After Bonham passed away in nineteen eighty, the band disbanded, leaving behind a legacy that defined rock and roll for generations.
