ESƏM-NEM — “Your Name” — follows a young Tuareg guitarist who carves his beloved’s name in Tifinagh on the inner wall of his guitar, hidden from every eye. When a conflict between their families separates them, he never speaks her name in public. Instead, he transforms it into one short guitar phrase and carries it into every performance. Years later, she is crossing a crowded market when that phrase rises above the stalls. She recognizes it before she sees him. Every note is vibrating through the wood that still carries her name. This is not another song about waiting beneath the desert sky. ESƏM-NEM is about love encoded in wood, Tifinagh and sound—a name protected inside an instrument when speaking it aloud is impossible. A close, cyclical Tuareg guitar motif leads the arrangement, supported by a dry tendé pulse and a restrained voice that never reveals the hidden name.
